Remodeling rules that I have discovered over the years...
Rule #1. If you are going to compromise the safety of your house by putting holes in your roof, or replacing and installing windows or exterior doors... start early in the morning. It gives you TIME to start over before nightfall.
Rule #2. Use screws, everything (cabinets, doors, studs, sheet rock) is easier to take off if screws were used instead of nails. It gives you the ABILITY to start over.
Rule # 3. It isn't about plumb and level, it is about parallel. If the door frame is a trapezoid or parallelogram, making the door square will IT look like a trapezoid or parallelogram. The reveal, or gap, is the important thing!
Rule# 4. Remember, you are building a house not a piano... put away the micrometer, I have!
